Adder's-tongue set

Fourteen small sheets of adder's-tongue fern, Ophioglossum, pressed between 1923 and 1931 by a collector who worked the pastures on the valley side. Each sheet measures 22 by 16 centimetres. The fronds are thin, so the photographs were made at the highest resolution the stand allows, with the lamps lowered to their lowest angle.

The sheets came to us in one folder with a typed index. The index lists the fourteen items in pressing order, and that order is also the order of the file numbers. Keep the folder together when you read the set, because the dates on the labels only make sense against the sequence of the sheets.

Parts of the set

  1. Sheets 0100 to 0104, labels dated 1923, 15 files, 27 GB.
  2. Sheets 0105 to 0109, labels dated 1927, 15 files, 33 GB.
  3. Sheets 0110 to 0113, labels dated 1931, 12 files, 36 GB.

The masters are stored as one folder per part. Each folder is also packed into archive parts of about 8 GB, so the set can be checked piece by piece. A checksum is written for each part, and the scanning and storage page explains the schedule.

The typed index is photographed with the set as FB-S-F-0099. It is not one of the fourteen sheets, but it is the only key to the pressing order, so it is kept at the front of every copy.
