Fern sheets
The fern section has 142 sheets. Most were pressed between 1870 and 1925 by collectors who walked the same fen edges every summer and sent their material to a single cabinet. The labels are often the only record of where a plant grew, so we transcribe every label in full and keep the transcription beside the image.
Fern sheets are mounted on heavier card than the grass sheets, so the photographs show more relief. The lamps are set lower for them, and the raking light is kept on every frond.

The adder's-tongue set is kept as one unit because the fourteen sheets were pressed together and share a folder label. Splitting the set would lose the order in which they were pressed.
Single-sheet entries are the right place to begin. Sets and folders are large, and the table shows their totals before you reach a page about them.
